and the Rize! Metal e-zine interview, posted on SoS'myspace blog a while ago: entrevista.

French Metallian, i'm sure i'm not the only one who'd be very interested in the English translation you've made of that one! Very Happy

PostSubject: Interview of Oliver Palotai for Sons of Seasons   Thu Aug 07, 2008 7:41 pm

So as everybody knows there was an interview of oliver for a spanish webzine called RISE! but unfortunately it was ONLY in Spanish. My level in Spanish is the same than my level in Deutsche (that mean it SUCKS !). But I took my patience and with a lot the coffee, here the results :

"The keyboard player and guitarist Oliver Palotai, famous to belong to Doro and Kamelot, begins a new project of Prog Metal with symphonic elements, named “Sons of Seasons”. In this new band, Palotai is followed by Henning Basse (singer of Metallium), Luca Princiotta (guitarist of Doro), Jürgen Steinmetz (bassist of Silent Force) and Daniel Schild (ex drummer from Blaze) and currently works on the edition of their first album. RISE! contacted the founder of the band to ask him about the progress of this project.

RISE: Hi Oliver! First, how are you?

OP: Hello ! I’m fine thanks! Very busy these last months but it’s the last thing whose I should complain.

RISE: I know that the things are good with Kamelot but let’s talk about “Sons of Seasons”. According to the official website, you are the founder of the band. So my first question should be how did you meet the members of the band ?

OP: In fact, the incorporation of all the band members wasn’t done before the half of the songs were written, I had to define first the style of what “Sons of Seasons” will be, and I had also to take care to their musical skills because it’s not so easy to play a given musical style. Daniel Schild (drummer) and Luca Princiotta (guitarist) were with me in the band Blaze Bayley , and at this time , I knew that I would tour with them even before they left to the band Bayley (REALLY NOT SURE OF THE PREVIOUS SENTENCE). I met Jürgen Steinmetz (bassist) from some little meeting and a tour we had with the band Silent Force in Japan. I met also Henning Base (singer) in Japan where he temporary replaced the singer of Firewind.

RISE: For the people not familiar with the band, could you please introduce the members ?

OP: ok, Daniel Schild is our drummer. He is from the center of Germany and he is a very polyvalent player. He first played in a jazz combo and approximately two years ago, I asked him to integrate the band Blaze Bayley. Luca Princiotta is also in the same band Blaze and I already replaced him sometimes in the band Doro Pesch. He is an incredible guitarist with a very natural sound. Jürgen Steinmetz is the bass player, and as me he works on a lot of things at the same time, the organization, the music and the production. With his experience, he is very important for the band. Henning Basse, who is the singer, gives the final touch to what the band will be. He is student in music and sings too for other musical style or for his other band Metallium.

RISE: It’s hard to find a good name for a band nowadays. I love it. I let me think that “Seasons” represents the different style of metal we could find in your different tracks or maybe it’s your individualities which combined together create a kind of unity?

OP: Indeed it’s a beautiful interpretation of the name of the band. Keep it in mind! And yes, ”Seasons” is focused on the polyvalence of the band. It’s not very clear for the moment with the brief demos and examples but “Sons of Seasons” doesn’t aim a precise style. The music is full of unexpected surprises.

RISE: Why did you decide to use this name? What does “Sons of Seasons” represent for you ?

OP: The name of the band came a long time before, the writing of the music. It was several years ago.For the band, it means that each member becomes a “Son of Seasons”.

RISE: “Some say they're Prog Metal, some it's Symphonic Metal, others say it's hard to define” (taken from the official myspace). My question is, how personally do you want to describe or to define your musical style?

OP: Hard to define (laugh). No I don’t like to be like the other bands who said they and their music are completely new. We let the others to judge of that. The problem is that those people always put a band in a given category after listened to the music and described it by a musical style. A least the Progressive Metal allows a lot of definitions. But maybe the best is to not conform to that.

RISE: What do distinguish “Sons of Seasons” for the other bands?

OP: Until this point, nothing is sure. Writing songs and playing an instrument is nothing else that an adventure whose you don’t know exactly what will be the final result; especially when you write something different. But now, I’m sure that we create our own way, because people who already heard the music had some difficulties to compare it to another one on the market. My own way as a musician was through so many different style and the concept of “Sons of Seasons” was exactly what I need to write the music (REALLY NOT SURE OF THE PREVIOUS SENTENCE).

RISE: At this moment, you are working on the debut album. Could you tell more about it ?

OP: The album is named “Gods of Vermin”. You can find one hour of music. Normally, it should be available in winter, maybe in summer next year.

RISE: Who did write the song? What was your inspiration?

OP: I began originally with “Sons of Seasons” as my own space of leisure for the redaction of topics, arrangement and orchestration without any influence. You know, when you have to write for other artists, you always have a predefined way. With this band, I can work free. Of course, each band member has an important role. Daniel Schild who adds some drums and so modifies some themes. Jürgen Steinmetz with his bass also modifies the songs. Henning is the interpreter or the writer of the vocal lines and so he modifies the songs! Concerning my inspiration … I’d say other music, literature, history and philosophy in general.

RISE: How did you decide which songs will be included in the final themes?

OP: I began to work on the songs on year ago and then, sometimes to times, I edited new ones. If I have the feeling that one song doesn’t fit with the others, I change it. It’s very few likely that a complete song of the album could be changed because at this state of the recording process, the damages can be important.

RISE: What would be the message behind this first album that you would like to transmit to your listeners?

OP: the songs are mainly some reflection on contemporary events, on literature, on fairy tales ( is it right ?) and philosophy. I’m not the kind of man who tries to say to people what is good or evil. I always say that I hate lyrics which say “you should change your life” or “because you are destroying our world”. That’s quite hypocritical. Musicians are far from being saints regarding their style of life. I try to stay at the third person, the perspective of people, when I write lyrics. I’m more a story teller than a judge.

RISE: Do you write some songs which have a very personal important for you or any other band members and if so, why?

OP: All you have in the album. This first album is the most important musical work that I’ve done until now. There won’t be songs whose lyrics easily occur in the life.

RISE: Are you thinking about some video records? Or maybe it’s a bit early for that?

OP: (“Escuchando las canciones tengo una fuerte imágen dentro mio” ,I didn’t get the point to what you are saying. I would say “the songs which have a strong image for the people” but it’s interpretation) But it’s too early to consider it until now.

RISE: Did you already plan a tour with the band?

OP: We are now at the point where we are planning the records. Some basic chords have not been determined until now and there are also the editors, the agency, etc … As soon as we will be fully installed, we will try to plan some shows.

RISE: let’s talk about the future…. How would you (or another band member) wish to be remembered?

OP: For the moment, I can’t speak for my colleagues. But as far as I’m concerned, I don’t consider myself important enough to be remembered (Is the translation right ? I don’t want to say bullshits). If one melody I wrote would survive, it would be more than I could expect.

RISE: Which bands do you inspire you the most? What are your favorite artists?

OP: The artists who are the most important for my inspiration are not from the metal scene. I studied classical music and Jazz, as Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Kenny Barron, Charlie Parker and for composers as Bach, Haydn, Händel or Mozart are my favorite.

RISE: Would you like to ask something? a message to the fans maybe ? or to talk about something what wasn’t mentioned until now ?

OP: Maybe I should say that any personal comment or critic from our listener about the album is welcome. We read all the comments on our myspace and on the forum of our official website www.sonsofseasons.com . Sometimes people may think that we are a few musicians far away in the paradise. But we aren’t. I’m very curious to hear about the opinion of people about “Sons of Seasons”.

Elizabeth Izzo (no I’m not named Elisabeth but source as to be quoted)

From: http://risemetal.com/2008/05/18/entrevista-sons-of-seasons/ "

Just hope it's not too long, just correct if there is any mistake Oliver, so now enjoy people Smile

I'd sent blabbermouth the link to the bts clip a couple of days ago and it looks like it took them a while to post it. It finally appeared today. Above that they forgot the link TO the clip in the end. *rollseyes* I'm just glad they corrected it immediately after I pointed it out. Wink

Thx for this new interview great It's very interesting to read how the guys worked (and are still working) for this album ^^

How do you make it ? By mail ?

The description of the song "Fall Of Byzanz" gives me a strong desire to listen to it bounce

Will Sons Of Seasons plan any live shows before or after the album is released?

Right now we're not sure if the album will be out before that little tour in February – probably through Germany, Holland, maybe Belgium and France. We're working on the next dates for May, and there the album will be out for sure.

fest I can't wait !!! This warm-up tour is such a surprise ! I'm so happy to read this ^^ Hope you will be able to come in France Smile (but Holland and Belgium are good too... Germany is too far away from me ^^" or maybe not who knows XD)

I shared this interview on Facebook (I put the videos and photos too, hope it's ok ^^")

What a nice surprise this morning, when I found the link to the interview. Awesome interview, I really liked the questions Waë! You and Steph did a terrific job picking them.

Tour in February?!? bounce Sounds good to me! I hope the album is out by then, though - I really would love to know the songs, before the tour. great

+1

And I think that's my favorite part of the whole interview. congrats

The 'warm up' tour will be a few gigs end of February, if everything goes well. Probably in Germany, Holland, maybe and hopefully Belgium and France. Of course we'd like to come to more countries but we have to stay close to our home base to be able to return after the gig.
