PostSubject: Taste for Travels   Sun Aug 24, 2008 10:06 pm

Hi everybody,
so I open this little topic to express what travel did you do people and more important which countries do you want to visit Very Happy ?

So in my case I visited quite my whole country :P France (the most touristic place in the world *be kicked*)
I also spent a lot of time in Germany (very beautifull country if you know where to go) and Nederlands (some very nice cities but between the cities ...) .
I was also in Hungary but only for 3 days (you know why I'm sure) in Budapest (this town is simply AMAZING !!!) and Miskolc ( quite ok, a bit small and lost but it's ok :P )
also made a short trip in Spain (Barcelona is cool, better than Madrid).

My dream would be to go to those countries :

Japan ( this one for sure I'll go there for at least 3 weeks in order to visit the main towns: Tokyo , Yokohama, Nagoya, Kyoto for sure and if I have the luck Osaka Kobe, Hiroshima, Nagazaki, Sapporo and Okinawa).

Russia (I want to see Moscau and St Petersburg)

USA ( something tell me that even if I don't want to go there I'll have to go for my work :P so would be great to see California, NY,Washigton, and a desertic cowboy State as Texas *kicked by Nicole*, Arizona or Nevada with beautifull landscapes)

Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and the Amazonian forest)

Those four are my priority for the future but I wouldn't complain for any travel specially inside Europe.

My next one would be probably in London to see Kamelot in March (yeah London ...) Very Happy

so and you ? Very Happy

Austria

And I guess that's it. :(

Lots of places I want to visit though, I hope we will have more time for it in the future:

Scandinavia in general
Australia
New Zealand
Canada

I've been to several parts (but not all) of the US, my favorite so far being Washington state (Seattle was awesome!).
Unfortunately, the only other country I've been to so far is Canada(Niagra Falls and Toronto)! (I mean unfortunately, because I would love to see many countries!!)

The top places I would love to see are Italy, Greece, France, Norway, Mexico and Brazil.

/Ben is kicked by Nicole. Texas has many biomes, not just desert!!! That's west Texas by the way :P The coast has beach, marshland/wetland, forest, etc. The north has forest mainly.

I haven't been anywhere much except through the states that lead to Florida twice when i was younger and been through most of Texas, otherwise I've been nowhere so I have alot of places I'd love to visit;

Egypt!!!!! (practically my home)
Ireland
Norway
England
Greece
Canada
France
Portugal
Germany
The Caribbean
Australia
South Africa
Mexico
New York

.....I probably have more but that's all I can think of for now. So basically everywhere :P

England (well nah :p), Scotland and Wales
France
Finland (for a day)
Cyprus
America (we stopped in Detroit and had a holiday in Florida for my birthday :p)
Belgium (on a school trip, which unfortunately sucked and was probably the worst 5 days of my life)

My next holiday will hopefully be to Norway, or Paris (eurgh :p JUST KIDDING!!! *runs away before she gets shot*)

I hope to go to anywhere, really. Somewhere I haven't been before, but I'd especially like to go to Holland, Germany, Italy and Croatia.

*Emily is shot dead by Ben
Paris is a very beautifull city even if it's well known that people are a bit crazy there :P But you will see by yourself (that's the city is beautifull, the fact that people here are crazy you already noticed I think Very Happy )

*to Comatose Muffin
I hope that you will make all the travels you want in the future Smile . It's never easy to live in a quite isolated country but you live in a beautifull country. And the best for you should be to make all your Scandinavian trip in a raw (not in WINTER by the way :P )

*to Nymeria
If you are talking about the Matsuri (festivals in japanese) you can find ones al during the year and almost everywhere Very Happy !

website about Japanese festivals in French
one in English for the other Smile

Would be stupid to go in Japan and to make no festival :P
For Tokyo, you can consider a full week if you want to see the main districts (there are 23 but a lots are only residential, industrial,etc...). I think for me it would be Chiyoda, Chuo, Minato, Shinjuku, Taito, Shibuya.
But every Japanese would say that the most beautifull city of their country is Kyoto. A since most of the festivals are there it's great Very Happy There are more than 2000 temples, zen garden and monuments there.
wiki kyoto

So yes a month in Japan would be a busy one for me Very Happy

yeah I was talking about Matsuri Very Happy Thx for the links ! Didn't know there were so much Matsuri Shocked

Now I want to gooo !!!! But Japan is very expensive so I must wait ^^" (or win the lottery... hum). I'm just afraid because I don't understand Japanese and not being able to read the boards or to understand what people says (in the underground for exemple) is frightening for me ^^" So I think I will go with someone who can understand :p

Btw, You 've forgotten Akiba in your districts list (well it's one I want to go :p) and definitely, if I go to Japan, I will visit Kyoto Very Happy

I think you mean Akihabara (the electronic light town :P ). it's not a distric it's a underdistric lol (in Chiyoda district Very Happy ). In Tokyo you won't have any problem, they made a "foreign tourist policy" so that's mean that almost everything is subtitled in English but if you want to go to smaller cities, yes it's better to be able to speak a bit japanese . Wink

Just warning you folks, if you're coming to Norway you should be prepared with a lot of money, this country is so damn expensive......and we're not exactly *cough-cough-cough* THAT good in talking English....."everyone" aged 40 and over has this awful accent....

Places I've been to (except Norway);
Denmark (at least 12 times)
Sweden (ok, G÷teborg and some small cities near the border)
Russia (crossing the border from Norway)
Finland (crossing that border too)
England (started in London, drove up to York and around Yorkshire, drove down to some-place-I-don't-remember for a Scout Jamboree, then went back to Londond for our plane home)
Poland (Gdansk and Warsaw)
Greece (Athens and Aegina)
Canary Islands, twice
somewhere in Spain (lived there when I was little but I don't remember it)

And some places I wanna see;
Budapest, Stockholm, Copenhagen (these two hopefully has some nice museums), Athens & Aegina again, Texas (Nicole, be warned :P), Sarajevo (to see Maja Very Happy), somewhere in Japan, Bergen......
that's all I can come up with for now Wink

Lol. Well, I actually want to visit Scandinavia in general since like forever. It's mainly the money issue that kept me away so far. For this summer we had the option to go either to the US or Sweden and after calculating the costs we decided for the US since in the end it wasn't THAT much more expensive.

But maybe we WILL go to Sweden Rock next year. Very Happy

Well, I want to see the northern lights, so that's one big reason to go to Norway :P Also, I like going to new places, so it would be really cool to go there. We were going to go on a cruise but they don't do any during my school holidays, so we're going to Scotland instead.

That means, during the winter (when the sun's down for like half a year), up North....that again means north of Bod°, I'd suggest Kirkenes, Alta, Kautokeino, or anywhere else in Finnmark :P
I've seen the Northern Lights, when I was little. And, to see them you have to be somewhere far outside a town. Because of the city lights, it's really hard to see them. I was in the middle of nowhere (practically, yes lol) so we saw them quite clearly.
Norway's popular! Yayness! Very Happy
Oh, btw, June next year I'm going to Rome. And my dad's decided we go to Budapest some time next year Very Happy

I'm going to travel around Scotland at the end of the month, as I have a minor obsession with castles... so we'll be going to places like Stirling Castle, Edinburgh Castle, the William Wallace monument and the Rosslyn Chapel (which I'm looking forward to the most - I'm really interested in the Knight's Templar and the crusades). It's going to be great! grin
